Photo to Scanned Document Converter — Free, Private, No Upload

Transform ordinary smartphone snapshots of paper forms, contracts, receipts, book pages, and letters into clean, crisp, professional scanner-quality documents. Instead of sending sensitive financial records, legal agreements, or medical receipts to third-party cloud servers, our client-side scanner engine processes every single pixel directly inside your browser memory using hardware-accelerated HTML5 Canvas and WebGL.

1. 4-Corner Perspective Flattening & Deskewing

When documents are photographed on a desk, optical keystoning and angles cause trapezoidal distortion. Our projective homography mapping uses Heckbert transformation mathematics with sub-pixel bilinear interpolation to calculate the true paper plane, un-skewing and flattening the document as if placed on a flatbed scanner glass.

2. Adaptive Shadow Removal & Xerox B&W Filters

Smartphone cameras cast phone and hand shadows across paper surfaces. Our illumination estimation filter models the background lighting gradient to normalize paper whiteness from edge to edge. The Xerox B&W filter employs Bradley-Roth integral adaptive thresholding, separating ink from paper for high-contrast legible text.

Privacy-First Architecture: Zero Cloud Uploads

Unlike online PDF conversion websites that upload your personal documents to external processing queues, SnapDoc executes 100% of image analysis, perspective warping, shadow cancellation, and PDF rendering locally in your device's web browser. Your confidential contracts, bank statements, and tax forms never leave your computer or phone.

How to Photograph Documents for the Best Scanning Results

  • Contrasting Background: Place light paper onto a dark tabletop, wooden desk, or mousepad so paper boundaries stand out cleanly.
  • Overhead Lighting: Avoid direct back-lighting or harsh flash glares that wash out printed text. Diffuse ambient daylight yields optimal contrast.
  • Keep Corners in Frame: Ensure all four corners of the page are visible within your camera viewfinder so boundary rays can locate them without clipping.
  • Hold Parallel: While our perspective corrector flattens skewed angles, taking the photo relatively parallel reduces perspective distortion and sharpens edge focus.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does multi-page PDF export work?

You can upload multiple document pages at once or click “Add More Pages”. Use the interactive page strip below the preview to rearrange page sequences by dragging thumbnails. When you click “Download Combined PDF”, every page is compiled into one unified PDF document in your exact order.

Should I use Xerox B&W or Color Polish?

Choose Xerox B&W for text-heavy contracts, printed legal documents, and black ink forms where you need maximum legibility and miniature file size. Choose Color Polish when preserving colored logos, handwritten blue ink signatures, or stamps is required.

What resolution is generated for printing?

When 300 DPI is selected, output pages are scaled up to standard 300 DPI print quality (up to 3508px on the long edge for A4). Standard DPI metadata headers are embedded directly into the file stream so print shops and PDF viewers render the document at accurate physical scale.

Are my files stored anywhere on your servers?

Never. SnapDoc runs entirely on your local CPU and GPU within your web browser. No network payloads containing your images or PDFs are transmitted to any cloud servers or database.
